Forward Looking- Hero Magazine
You know my blog is a mix of menswear and womenswear. I like designing for women but I never forget my sensibilities as a guy. So whenever I see menswear shows, I feel inspired: I want to experience wearing them... When I become less of a dough and back to my old self.
Recently, I decided to take the chance to win a Limited Edition Copy of Hero 7: Dark+Stormy c/o
Hero Magazine and Models.com. Guess What. I won! Thanks Hero Magazine!
What drew me to buy the magazine was the cover.

According to the website:
"HERO 7 IS A TRIBUTE TO THE PENT UP ENERGY BEFORE A STORM: THE FRICTION, ELECTRIC CHARGE AND STIR-CRAZINESS OF AN UNPREDICTABLE, VOLATILE AND UNDENIABLY EXCITING TIME."
It is a compelling cover: Clean, but not minimalist. Powerful, but not overbearing. Simple, but never simplistic. There was thought in the creation of this cover that makes it particularly appealing to me. Of course, I adored the Givenchy ensemble worn by Arthur Gosse complete with the nose ring. I have to say, Andrew Gosse is a chameleon.
A little more about Hero:
"Hero prides itself of featuring the new faces of fashion, shaping the landscape now, and creating an indelible mark in the future."
Hero 7: Dark+ Stormy is out now and is available worldwide. Get your copy NOW. Since I hail from the other end of the Pacific, hopefully, I receive the copy within the next week or so. For the Limited Edition Copy? Your pedestal is awaiting you!
Again, thank you so much, Hero Magazine for choosing me. I was gonna wait to blog till the copies arrive, but what the heck, I'll just post images when they arrive!

P.S.
I know it has been a while since I posted anything but I had to make some life changes (no I was just lazy). Anyway, I think, this amazing triumph that I got is enough motivation to get on track. there will be new things to expect. firstly, the Chanel Cruise Collection, and of course, the first Couture collection of Raf Simons for Dior in a few months. Life is good!

Daniel Hechter Purse/Clutch
It took me a lot of thinking before making this particular purchase. A month, at least. I had been contemplating about how I could level up, style-wise. I was buying shirts last January for some important interviews and stuff when I glanced at this lovely leather purse for men at Daniel Hechter. I was first hesitant about it since it looks like an oversized wallet. Sounds impractical. I was quite happy with it when I tried it out at home, after buying it today. It is a very good find simply because it allows me to organize the smaller things i tend to misplace all the time. In fact, it is so functional that it could not only fit an iPhone but also include a small point and shoot camera in the zippered compartment.
This Daniel Hechter purse really seals the deal. It has a soft, buttery leather material generously used throughout the bag. The stitches are even and with no flaws. The flap was durable and had interesting details. With regards to looks, I daresay, it was designed specifically for guys. It is totally utilitarian not only with the 7 individual compartments but also with how it was designed. it is simple yet you see the little details from the hardware to the construction. it was a purse made to last. It was not an easy decision at first but when I took the plunge, I was very much satisfied with the results. I still love roomier bags for specific reasons but nonetheless, it is a really nice option for those who like quality pieces that can last a long time.

Theyskens' Theory Fall 2012-2013
All I can say about this collection is:
WELCOME BACK, OLIVIER THEYSKENS!
I felt this collection was very much his true aesthetics. As much as we have seen his range in creating really beautiful and wearable pieces, he is a romantic artist and I believe that his dark "fairytale" was a culmination of his training and growth in Rochas and Nina Ricci but now, with a more definitive Theyskens signature. I love the dresses and gowns at the end. Everything was cool, chic, quite romantic with a haunting air to it.This collection was Olivier Theyskens as I remembered him. he learned how to expand his range and edit his collections more with sensitivity to consumers but at the same time, leave a small space for people to experience the dark fantasy and romance that we have known and loved and loved him for.

I love the new Proenza Schouler collection for 2012 but...
Maybe it's just me, but the theme or the direction the duo designers used for the collection seem to be very close to Nicolas Ghesquire's aesthetic in Balenciaga. I love the collection, believe me, but there are some elements and treatments I find too similar from past collections, from the styling to the overall effect. I have great respect to Proenza Schouler for pushing the boundaries and becoming the most sought after and incredibly talented designers in the world and maybe it was just a coincidence. However, yet again, maybe there is something if I immediately recognize some treatments to be too Ghesquire-ish.
What does this mean for me? I couldn't wait any longer for Paris Fashion week because I want to see the evolution of Balenciaga after their exceptional collection last season! More power to Proenza Schouler. I think it is the sickness of a lot of people nowadays to compare designers and "styles" and I have to confess I don't like the feeling of comparing their aesthetics. Whatever they design is their aesthetic and interpretation.
Anyway, I think NY Fashion week was not a disappointment at all.
Now,moving forward to London FW!

Marc Jacobs Fall 2012
With a Marc Jacobs collection, it's either you love it or hate it. I happen to love this particular collection. Yes, it's more a presentation of a theme with the staging and styling of the clothes but then, it suddenly transports you to some place that is utterly different from the pragmatic offerings that we keep on seeing in the runway. as far as the NYFW F2012 goes, my favorites were Jason Wu, Altuzarra and Marc Jacobs. I have not seen or reviewed other collections yet but these are the ones I truly see with a point of view. Marc Jacobs always puts you in an awkward situation when he presents a theme. you can take it or leave it. I happen to appreciate the use of the music from Oliver (Who will Buy). I remember this grand scene at the plaza where it is surrounded with homes of the aristocracy. it is also a place where vendors of flowers, milk and other goods roam around, trying to sell their products. The style of the collection has a whimsy feeling, with those bucolic hats, like those in Mary Poppins. it is a fantasy, an idea personified and yet, the pieces do feel like they belong to NYC. This is the charm that Marc Jacobs never fails to exude in his collections. one time you are in the 80s, next day you are in a musical, next day you time travel to the 50s. I love the flow of ideas and how well the pieces were executed and styled. Overall? I think we can extract a lot of pieces that are at once incredible and unique, stylish and whimsical at the same time.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall-Winter 2012-2013
First, let me state that the hairstyle reminds me of Sweeney Todd. There seems to me that I am seeing an intellectual and/or artistic side on the Dolce & Gabbana man for this collection. At some point, he looks like a doctor, then at certain times, like a business man and then at some point a baron. Quite vague? Probably, but hey, that's just my opinion.
What struck me the most about the collection was that the pieces were so man-of-the-street but in an Victorian sort of way. The Ivy caps, the slightly dropped crotch pants; folded and tapered at the hem and the varied styles of overcoats, they are quintessential pieces for the collection. Another striking element in the collection would have to be the baroque details on capes, jackets and knits. some look like they were knitted into the material, creating that raised, 3D effect.
I would have to say that I loved the underwear. Veering away from the skimpy tight bikinis, they added long johns, and those boxers that have buttons along the waistband.they all fall on the natural waist.
And Pajamas! Oh I am loving this collection simply because of the pajamas worn with jackets. it's like a perfect outfit for me. Sleepwear as daywear!
The latter part was quite embellishment and print heavy for me. though I loved the baroque details, I felt that some pieces were overly styled and decorated.
I am seeing a lot of focus on coats lately. I wonder if we will be seeing more men wearing coats. That would just look dandy.

Valentino does Pitti Uomo: The Perfect Coat
Left: Valentino coat
style.com
Valentino was invited for the 81st Pitti Uomo event held in Florence. Doing menswear with a flair of couture. The result is this: a breathtaking coat. The dropped shoulder gave this coat a relaxed feel. the volume created an impeccable appeal to an otherwise "simple" design. It's all in the details: the tonal fastening close to the neckline (which was a repeating accent throughout the collection), the straps at the end of the sleeves, and the hidden structure inside the coat that holds the shape impeccably. The collection was inspired by gorgeous men who wore clothes with refinement, just like in the old days. The poster boys of the collection, Alain Delon and Marcello Mastroianni embody the refined masculinity of the 60s. Though the collection was very proper, with some obvious touches of couture, this coat definitely took my breath away.

Spring Style- Hints of Yellow
The varying tints of yellow from the light, lemon-y transparent coat from Dries van Noten, to the richer, mustard-y tones from Lanvin and Burberry Prorsum, yellow has taken center stage as one of the dominant colors for spring. An optimistic color choice, yellow can be hard to pull off if the person is not aware of how to effectively pull off the color based on skin tone. Yellow is a great addition to the bold colors that we have seen in the runway and so for this spring, it is but necessary to add a bit of a bit of a cheery yellow color to brighten up your daywear.

The accessories definitely are great options for those who think that yellow is not their best color option. here are some practical, attainable and stylish accessory options to consider for this spring-summer. The Jil Sander Bag and necklace pouch are to die for. The yellow snakeskin definitely amplified the appeal of these bags to another level.
